Shoba Ramegouda Kanakapura
Shobha Ramegouda from Kanakapura, near Bangalore, was just 15 years when she was married off but she never relented in her endeavour to make life better for her husband and children. Though her husband owned 2 acres of land in their village, he had to live away from the family doubling as construction worker in Bangalore to support the family.
Ten years ago, Shobha ventured into saree business with Grameen Koota loan and found it apt to expand into dairy business as well five years later. She bought a cow in 2010 with loan again from Grameen Koota and now she owns three cows yielding 15 litres of milk daily.
A proud mother of two children, Shobha has become not only literate about financial aspects but also makes optimum utilisation of need-based loans. She used the loan for home improvement and took education loan for her son's and daughter's education, besides adding a TV and a refrigerator to the household.
"Our life a decade ago was full of shortage and insufficiency. Now it's far better and we are looking forward to building a bigger home and rent out part of it," she says brimming with confidence.
